El Cine Político-Militante en Argentina

February 28, 2008 - 4:00 pm

Ana Laura Lusnich, University of Buenos Aires

This lecture analyzes Argentinean political films from 1958 to 1976. The talk will pay particular attention to Cine Liberación. The trajectory of this group of filmmakers, founded by Fernando Solanas y Octavio Getino in the 1960s, helps to explain a set of problems rooted in that period: principally, the radicalization of political and cultural behavior. At the same time, these directors looked to generate a discussion about documentary and fictional cinema. Prof. Lusnich will analyze the following films which constitute the most influential and representative of the genre: La hora de los hornos (1968), Peron, la revolución justicialista (1971), Peron: Actualización política y doctrinaria para la toma del poder (1971), Los hijos de Fierro (1975).
