Luiz Henrique da Silveira was recently re-elected to a second term. He has served as President of the PMDB (currently the largest party in Congress and in the national governing coalition) and Minister of Science and Technology. Before elected governor, Mr. Silveira served ten consecutive mandates as state and federal representative in Congress and was mayor of Joinville, Santa Catarina’s largest city and a model for local governance within Brazil. Prior to his political career, Mr. Silveira was professor of Law, History and Portuguese in several Brazilian institutions. He holds a law degree from the State University of Santa Catarina. His published works include O Gesto e a Palavra and O Exercício da Legalidade.
