Shareen Hertel will discuss the findings of her research on transnational labor and economic rights advocacy, drawing insights from her new book Unexpected Power: Conflict and Change Among Transnational Activists (Cornell 2006). She will highlight how developing country activists attempt to change the focus of transnational campaigns by emphasizing new and expanded understandings of human rights. This event is co-sponsored by the Hunter College Human Rights Project.
