Yociel Marrero Baez coordinates the Environmental and Consumption Program at the Antonio Nuñez Jimenez Foundation for Nature and Humanity in Havana. Marrero’s work aims to develop strategies for socio-economic alternatives that contribute to the sustainable development of Cuban society. He is a leading member of the Nazdarovie-Havana and related projects to open the economy to the private sector and the new process of reform in Cuban society. For a decade, Marrero has been Director of Research and Development for Havana’s Metropolitan Park, leading the sanitation program of the Rio Almendares Basin, the most important river in Havana. He completed a master’s degree in Integral Management of Eco Technologies at the Universities of Castilla-La Mancha and Alicante in Spain and Humboldt State University in California, USA.

Gaby Pais has worked in communication for sustainable development for over 7 years in Havana, building communication campaigns and strategies to engage stakeholders into sustainable practices. Her main work has been developing communication actions and channels of communication to create awareness about climate change, healthy food, sustainable agriculture and waste management, using stakeholders-culture-based solutions to reach wider audiences in Cuba. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Communications from the University of Havana in 2014.

PowerPoint Presentation: Perceptions of the Legal Framework as a Tool for Sustainable Development in Cuba

Yordanka Castillo Porras works as a lawyer advising Cuba’s civil society on environmental and international law as well as intellectual property. She services the emergent private sector as a legal advisor for small private companies (entrepreneurs) on issues of regulation, business law, tax law, registration of trademarks, contracts, personal data and privacy, labor law, and financial regulation. Castillo Porras received a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Havana in 2015.
