About the Speakers:
Barry Carr is a leading scholar on Latin America whose work is centered on the contemporary and twentieth-century history of Latin America, especially Mexico, Cuba, Central America, and the Caribbean. He has written, edited, and co-edited seven books and over 50 journal articles and book chapters on such themes as labor and agrarian history of Mexico and Cuba.
Eric Zolov is a scholar who focuses on popular culture, Mexico, and U.S. – Latin America relations. His first book, Refried Elvis: The Rise of Mexican Counterculture(1999), uses the lens of rock counterculture in Mexico during the 1950s-70s to examine broader questions of national identity and middle class values during the era of dramatic change.
