Bolsonarismo: The 2022 Brazilian Elections, and Lessons for US 2024 & Brazil 2026

The presentation explores the characteristics of the right-wing conservative alignment in Brazil, its consolidation since 2018, in light of the results of the 2022 presidential elections and implications for the future in Brazil as well as possible lessons for the US.
Lucio R. Renno (Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh) is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Brasilia, Brazil, and currently serves as Dean of Graduate Studies. His research centers on politics and governance in Latin America, with a particular focus on Brazil, as well as political crises in the region and their impact on citizens’ perceptions of democracy and democratic institutions. His recent publications include works in high-impact journals such as Comparative Political Studies, Presidential Studies Quarterly, and Latin American Politics and Society. He has also co-edited books like Reforma Política em Questão and Legislativo Brasileiro em Perspectiva Comparada. His research offers critical insights into political behavior and governance in Latin America.
