Democracy’s relationship to identity politics and issues of equity are being debated worldwide. The 2004 Human Development Report, Cultural Liberty in Today’s Diverse World, makes a strong case for multicultural policies that recognize differences, champion diversity, and promote cultural freedom. This report responds to growing demands for inclusion with regard to ethnicity, religion, culture and language. This Bildner panel brings together the former editor of the Human Development Report and other specialists to address major issues posed by the UNDP report.
