Language Restrictive Policies in Boston Public Schools

Miren Uriarte, McCormack School of Policy Studies, UMass Boston

Miren Uriarte is a sociologist on the faculty of the College of Public and Community Services, of Latino Studies, and of the Ph.D. Program in Public Policy at the McCormack School of Policy Studies at UMass Boston. She is a senior research associate at the Gaston Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy, of which she was founding director (1989-1992) and director between 2005 and 2009. Her recent research work focuses on the differential effect of social policies and, specifically, of language restrictive educational policies on emergent bilinguals.
